One of MMA’s fans most controversial fighters may be lining himself up for another battle inside the octagon.
Though Dana White seemed uninterested in seeing Punk fight for the UFC after his 1st round loss to Mickey Gall last September, he may still be prepping for another fight for MMA’s top promotion.
Punk’s coach Duke Roufus posted this instagram seemingly prepping the fight world for his return to the octagon.
Great #laborday training today with the #roufusport Fight Team. We are pleased to welcome #UFC Lightweight #lebanese #canadian #johnmakdessi and always a pleasure having #cmpunk both of them are awaiting fight confirmations. #mma #usa #america #american #lebanon #canada #worldwide #Repost @johnmakdessi (@get_repost) ・・・ Honoured to have trained along side @CMPunk #bestintheworld today's practice session under legendary coach @dukeroufus #dukeroufusport Osu.
Of course we don’t imagine Dana or the rest of the UFC brass will put Punk against a top level fighter, but a battle with a relative newcomer to build up the former wrestling superstar could draw some interest.
One person who is throwing his hat in the ring is a UFC fighter that also has a connection to Gall; his first UFC opponent Mike Jackson. Jackson has just one pro fight (a loss to Gall before the latter’s scrap versus Punk) and most recently lost a decision in a Muay Thai fight.
With the UFC looking for big name draws, would you be interested in seeing Punk face a lesser opponent to fill the second fight of his contract?
